Ms Juliet Katusiime the ex-wife to former National Forestry
Authority boss, Mr Damian Akankwasa will spend three years in prison for
stealing Shs900 million from her matrimonial home three years ago.
Ms Katusiime was sentenced by Ms
Juliet Hatanga at City Hall Court to two years for each of the two
cases of forgery. She will serve the sentences concurrently.
The money belonged to Mr Akankwasa and his two brothers.
Ms Katusiime’s co-accused David
Ssebuliba and Maj. Godfrey Kyomuhendo were each sentenced to a one year
jail term for acquiring and retaining stolen property in their homes.
“Two of the convicts were not
principal offenders but the act of them not talking to the accused one
(Katusiime) to desist from her criminal acts brought them on board
squarely,” Ms Hatanga said.
The court also ordered Kamwokya
Community Caring Empowerment SACCO to immediately refund Shs357 million
to the three complainants while the rest of the money (Shs543 million)
be recovered in accordance with the law.
The three convicts appeared before court a day after they were remanded upon conviction.
Ms Hatanga noted that indeed
Katusiime was seen by one of the state witnesses carrying the two bags
that contained some of the said money and one was found at her residence
 in Nansana in Wakiso district.
The magistrate said it was
ridiculous for the convict to use the bank in opening several accounts
in the names of her sister while using her photo (Katusiime) and four
more people including an account of a deceased person.
The money was deposited to several accounts where it was kept until they were blocked.
