HERE COMES THE BIG ONE:KABAKA MUTEBI FOR PRESIDENT.

Photo: HERE COMES THE BIG ONE:KABAKA MUTEBI FOR PRESIDENT.Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi should contest for Presidency in 2016.I have keenly listened to the Kabaka of Buganda speak over the years; I have watched with my own eyes the support around him and the Kingdom’s cause; and I have come to believe so strongly that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi could be the messiah for Uganda. In so doing, the Kabaka of Buganda would not be in isolation, because over 40 countries across the world today are headed by traditional monarchs, chief of them, the United Kingdom, in whose shadow we’ve lived for over 50 years now.

One thing that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has done over the years, is to inculcate naturally flowing love within his people, not only for the Kingdom but also for the country at large. Often, we’ve seen the Baganda undertake generous acts aimed at creating sanity in society including cultural undertakings, health, education, business, politics, music, sports and so on. Some of these are the very areas where the central government has continued to struggle despite having so much in terms of human and financial resources at its disposal. I am sure if the Kabaka were to be elected President, he would have a firm ground to build on.

One other thing that gives the Kabaka a positive node, is the fact that he has ensured that in the absence of a national language, Luganda bridges the gap. Yes, it is simply unquestionable that if you walked to any corner of the country, the most common language spoken is Luganda. The aspect of language is very pivotal in propelling any country forward, because the people are able to understand each other. In the end, we do not necessarily have to debate in Parliament which language should be considered national, because by and large, this issue has already been resolved by the forces of nature.

Uganda has the potential to sail towards the much desired 1st World status, but corruption and the political struggles have let us down, so much that even when our GDP seems to have been steadily going up over the years, there’s little to be proud of because majority of the population is still living miserable life with few job opportunities, deaths arising from petty illnesses, little ingenuity arising from our education system and so on. I believe that the Kabaka could use his inalienable authority and respect to stamp out the vices that have made our country fail to take off. It is he who can speak and people listen irrespective of their respective political, religious or social inclinations.

However, for the Kabaka to be able to contest in the 2016 elections, as Baganda in particular and Ugandans on the whole, we must first put aside our dogmatic beliefs. The Baganda can decide to offer their Kabaka as a special gift to Uganda, and when this is done, the rest of us should receive him irrespective of our individual cultural biases. Where we have reached, Uganda must take off, and for this, we must explore all possible non-violent means, all for the love of our motherland.

In England for example, it is very hard to hear issues of senseless bloodshed for example arising from electoral processes or running battles on accord of who gets what, when and how. The reason for this is that all power is enshrined in a non-partisan Queen. Without any grain of greed or bias, the Queen shares part of her authority with the Prime Minister-all in a very peaceful and mutually agreed manner. Does anyone realize that we spend a lion’s chunk of our resources earned in 5 years on subsequent elections? Yet even after all that has been blown, our elections are never said to be free and fair!

It may be a serious gamble in Uganda’s political journey, but there’s no crime in trying something new. Who knows, we could be longing for a miracle in Uganda’s journey to glory yet the messiah is right here in our midst!
