The beauty and the beast at Makerere University

Makerere University is one of the few remaining areas of Kampala that is still left with old indigenous trees.

This is not only a potential recreational area but also a destination for bird watchers residing in hotels around Kampala City.

But the trees are facing danger of being cut down. While University authorities say they are only removing old trees that are dangerous to buildings, environmental activists say they are cutting down the trees to chase Marabou storks also known as Kalori.

Other sources say the trees are being processed into timber and firewood.
