The Flappy Bird Controversy
Dong Nguyen, who is a Vietnamese developer, created flappy Bird. He created the game during his spare time and it was available in the app stores in May 2013. The game became a very popular one and was touted as being among the top grossing games in the playstores. In fact, it was claimed that Dong Nguyen was earning $50,000 a day through ads. However, the game soon became known to be very frustrating and difficult and there were many complaints from players. In addition, there were also accusations of plagiarism in the gameplay, all of which caused too much pressure for Dong Nguyen. It seemed to spoil his simple life and he removed it from the play stores in February 2014.
A Professional Company – Rovio Entertainment
Rovio Entertainment is a professional company that created the highly successful mobile game Angry Birds. It was an instant hit and is now available in various themes and version. Rovio Entertainment is reportedly making millions of euros through the business.
Difference in Motivation
Both the games share only one similarity which is the similarity in their names. There was a big difference in the motivation of its creators. Dong was able to remove the game from the stores even when it was highly popular and was literally a cash cow. This was due to the fact that he was not a professional and was more interested in his peace of mind. However, Rovio continued to make more and more new versions and themes of Angry Birds, as they are professionals who are driven by making more and more money. They would surely not take an app down when it was hugely successful.
Flappy Bird – Annoying and Frustrating
Another point of difference between the two games is that Flappy Bird is highly annoying, whereas Angry Birds is challenging and interesting. Flappy Bird is quite interesting to begin with, but even after several attempts the player is not able to get a good score or cross the levels. The game play is simple enough, where the player has to merely tap on the screen and make the bird fly through gaps seen in the pipes. However, it is very difficult and if you make a single mistake, the bird dies and the game ends. Players were not able to go beyond a score of 5 at the most and this too could be attained only after playing for many hours.
It is so difficult that many gamers have not even been able to cross the first of the poles. In fact, people love to hate the game and it is sheer torture to play it.
Angry Birds – Challenging and Interesting
On the other hand, Angry Bird is very challenging and has many interesting features. The player has to use a variety of birds with different capabilities for attacking the pigs and their structures. There is a lot of strategic planning involved in the game and the moves have to be planned intelligently. Players can use their skills to get ahead in the game and get through the levels, unlike in Flappy Bird.
Verdict
Angry Birds has been developed by a professional company and is more interesting and challenging when compared to Flappy Bird. However, Flappy Bird is suitable for those looking for difficult and unbeatable levels. It is also very simple to play and there is no need of learning any rules or training before you start playing the game. Anybody can learn to play the game immediately, as it is easy. However, it is difficult to master.
