Makerere University cancels graduation fees increment after students strike

The University Vice Chancellor; Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu in a circular addressed to all students wrote; “Following consultation with the University Council…management wishes to inform all students that the Graduation fee shall remain at UGX 90,000…”

He appealed to students to resume studies.

The students’ strike started yesterday; Monday, was sparked by a recent decision by the university administration to increase graduation fees from sh90, 000 to sh220, 000 citing “increased operations costs.”

Police in attempts to quell the rioting students engaged in running battles for most of yesterday. Students have called off the strike following the latest announcement by the Vice Chancellor.
