The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has
finalised the marking of both the Primary Leaving and Ordinary Level
examinations papers. The exercise started on November 27.
Mr Francis Agula, the assistant commissioner
in-charge of secondary education, said the early completion of the
exercise brings hope that the exams could be released next month. “The
marking of PLE and UCE is complete and we hope the examining body will
be able to hand them to the ministry for release mid next month,” Mr
Agula said in an interview yesterday.
All examiners at various centres were yesterday
allowed to enjoy a three –day Christmas break and are expected back on
December 27 to embark on the verification of the results before they are
released.
The Ministry of Education has set January 30 to31 and February 14 to 15 for selecting Senior One and Senior Five entrants respectively.

For Senior Six exams, the exercise will commence
soon at various marking centres and will also be completed in the last
week of January. A total of Shs18.5 billion is expected to be spent on
the entire exercise. The money covers accommodation of examiners,
support staff, marking fees, and out-of –pocket, materials for use at
the centres and stationary.
Unlike in the previous years where Uneb always
said the examinations went on well and later withhold exams from some
centres, this year the body revealed early that more than 15 people had
been arrested over alleged involvement in malpractices.
