Makerere strike enters second day, University officials suspend fees hike.

Makerere University students continued with their strike over increased graduation fees on Tuesday forcing the university administration to suspend the fees increment until further notice.

The university council halted the increment of the students’ graduation fees from Ushs90,000 to Ushs220,000. This development followed a meeting on Tuesday morning between the Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kaihura, and the university's administration in which it was resolved that the increment be halted.
The students had taken to the streets for the whole of Monday protesting the university council decision's decision to hike the fees. The students were also aggrieved by what they say is the  poor quality of food and insecurity on the university campus.
