World Bank Holds Loan to Uganda Over Anti-Gay Law

The World Bank held its $90 million loan planned to help Uganda strengthen its health care system because of the recently signed anti-gay law. The loan was to be approved on Thursday.
“We have postponed the project for further review to ensure that the development objectives would not be adversely affected by the enactment of this new law,” a spokesman for the global poverty lender said.
This comes after the action by Norway and Denmark to freeze or change aid programs for Uganda and criticism from the United States and Sweden after President Yoweri Museveni signed the Anti –Homosexuality Law on Monday.
