UNEB releases Senior Six exam results UACE 2013

KAMPALA - The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Thursday released the eagerly-awaited Senior Six results for candidates who sat for the national examinations last year.
UNEB board chairman Fagil Mandy handed over the results to education minister Jessica Alupo at the Presidential Conference Hall in Kampala.
This time round, the release of the S.6 results delayed compared to previous years, where they would be released by the end of February.
Perhaps the delay could be blamed partly on the financial crisis which hit the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) last year.
Amid the crisis, there arose fears that the marking of the Senior Six exams would be delayed if funding from the education ministry did not get to the exams body in time.
On Thursday, minister Alupo told head teachers that they should teach and directed them to stop using pamphlets.
There was a level of consistence maintained by two subjects -- Economics and Islam -- which, just like in 2012, emerged among the best-performed subjects.
Other subjects which recorded an improvement are Physics, Chemistry, CRE and Agriculture, but there was a plunge in performance in History, Entrepreneurship, Literature (English) and Biology.
Surprisingly, Entrepreneuship featured among the best done in 2012, but it crambled last year, registering among the poorly performed disciplines.
In 2012, the arts subjects were done much better than the sciences, with History, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Islam/Divinity and Geography emerging as the best-done arts subjects.
