FDC ELECTIONS ROW DEEPENS

After the results were declared on 22nd November at Mandela National stadium Namboole, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu defeated Nandala Mafabi by margin of 33 votes.  The Leader of opposition in Parliament later conceded defeat but he later Mafabi complained of electoral malpractices and cited multiple voting by some senior party officials like Secretary General Alice Alaso. Alaso has rejected those claims. Now Mafabi says he only conceded to save the party from embarrassment.
Mafabi accuses Alaso of harbouring a personal vendetta against him since he was chosen over her as Leader of Opposition by then FDC President Dr. Kiiza Besigye and approved in absentia by the party’s National Executive Committee. He also claims that Alaso has failed in her duties since many petitions are pending in her office. About six years ago, Alaso beat Betty Kamya in the Secretary General’s election. Kamya later left the party for form her own Uganda Federal Alliance.
Mafabi and his supporters have asked that Alaso and FDC Electoral Commission chairman Dan Mugarura resign. They accused them of messing up the elections at Namboole. But Alaso says she is ready to rebut the claims now that the Mafabi Team has petitioned FDC National chairman Sam Njuba
FDC President General Mugisha Muntu says the party will consider the grievances and resolve the matter as soon as possible.
He rubbished allegations the Mafabi team makes n the petition that his campaign was funded by senior NRM officials, especially his former army colleague, Justice Minister Maj. Gen Kahinda Otafiire, and City tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba.
